Expensive Items You Should Stop Buying

I'm always searching for different ways to cut back on my spending. It's so easy to buy unnecessary, expensive things without even realizing it. Here's a list of all the things I let go of and what I buy instead!

1. Crazy expensive planners! When I first got to college, I somehow thought buying the $70 customized Erin Condren planner would somehow keep me more organized. The truth is, the $10 planner at Target is the EXACT SAME. The same space to write, same monthly tabs, even the same stickers. Don't waste your money! I've included a few planners you can buy that will work just fine for your upcoming school year that are under $10.

2. Gift bags! Start collecting and saving the bags whenever you get gifts. I keep them in a corner of a closet to pullout whenever I need a bag. This saves you from running to the store and spending $5+ every time you're giving a gift.

As you can see, I have a back stock of Christmas, birthday, and random bags so that I don't have to waste my money!

3. K-Cups. I've mentioned before that I no longer buy regular k-cups for my Keurig coffee maker. Instead, I use my refillable k-cups that you can buy on Amazon for only $10. Now you're reducing waste and saving money! (Make sure you buy the correct size for your Keurig.)

4. Plastic bottled water. Buying bottled water can get so expensive, plus it's a lot of trash. I bought a Brita water filter instead so that I could cut out the plastic. Now I take a reusable water bottle everywhere I go!

5. Cable. As a student, you can get a Spotify/Hulu membership for only $4.99/month. Hulu and Netflix have all of the new tv that I care to watch, so giving up cable was an easy choice.

6. High End Makeup. I have started doing research on my favorite high end makeup to see if there is a similar duplicate product of a cheaper brand. My favorite mascara, Too Faced "better than sex mascara," is $25 for the full size. After searching for similar mascara, I found one from L'Oreal for only $7 that is identical if not better than the Too Faced one. You can purchase it from the link below with free shipping.

7. Dryer Sheets. You can now switch your dryer sheets for reusable dryer balls! They reduce the drying time of your clothes, and save you money. You can get a pack of 4 here for $12.

As always, you can leave some feedback to tell me what you've stopped buying to save some money!

xoxo, Mattie
