Having a credit card is not always as bad as it would seem. It's only a bad idea if you use it to swipe freely until you've maxed it out. Coming into college, I decided to open a card with Discover just to start building some credit ahead of time. After I realized how rewarding it is to use a credit card as if it's a debit card, I started putting all of my expenses on it.
The card I have is a Discover “student” card. I love it because it gives you a $20 reward each time you make above a 3.0 semester grade. I also earn cash back on each purchase I make, which adds up super fast. Once you have a large enough balance of cash back rewards, you can either apply it to your statement or redeem it for gift cards. (If you choose to redeem a gift card, they’ll add either $5 or $10 to the card for free!) You can see the gift cards that I've redeemed so far below!
If you're interested in applying for this Discover card, you can do that here: http://refer.discover.com/s/ssucjl to get $50 for FREE after making your first purchase!!! I highly suggest referring your friends to get this card because you will both get a $50 credit to redeem towards your balance or a gift card! You might as well earn cash back for your purchases rather than swiping your debit card!
xoxo,
Mattie
