When it comes to cleaning out closets, people tend to just throw things out without thinking twice. This is so wasteful to me, and I refuse to throw something away that I paid good money for. (Even if you can't sell your things, chances are, you know someone who could use them.) These are my three steps to getting rid of my things!
About every few months, I completely purge my closet; clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry.
The first thing I do with my stuff is head to Plato's Closet. Over the last few years, they have definitely gotten more selective with what they are willing to take. If you end up getting rid of your things here, you're walking out with cash! This is always my first stop with used clothes because you don't have to wait for the money or bother shipping anything. (Remember they will even buy those Bath and Body Works items you were given as gifts that you never ended up using.)
After Plato's, I take what is left to Yours Truly Consignment in Conway. They keep your clothes for a few months and whatever doesn't sell is donated. This way you never have to come back to get anything! They start an account when you bring them your clothes, and you can cash it out at any time. (I have ended up making more at this store than I planned.)
After a trip to both Plato's Closet and a consignment shop, I list what's left on the Poshmark app. This is an app that lets you list your items by brand for people to buy online. You post a few photos, list the size, and choose your price. If things sit on the app for a while without selling, you can always drop the price. Once your item sells, Poshmark will email you a shipping label (the buyer pays for this) and instructions of how to send them your item. You just print the label, package the item, and stick it in your mailbox. When you decide to cash out, Poshmark mails you a check! It's super easy and exciting to build your online closet. I've made over $75 so far from this app! Sign up for Poshmark with my invite code "MATTIEGIRL12" on the link https://posh.mk/XGe7QedftU to get $5 to spend in the app!
If I still have items left after these three steps, they usually get donated. I try to squeeze out every penny that I can get before throwing things away. Next time you do a closet clean-out, take the time to try these! Your stuff could be worth more than you know.
xoxo, Mattie
